The Performing Arts

Fulton Opera House

For a small city Lancaster's attractions in the performing arts category can be found in abundance. They include three acclaimed professsional theatres (or theaters if you prefer): the Fulton Theatre (at the Fulton Opera House; picture at left), the American Music Theatre, and Sight and the Sound's Millennium Theatre.

Then there are the Theatre of the Seventh Sister, the EPAC in Ephrata, and the Gretna Theatre. In addition we also have two dinner theaters, the Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre and the Rainbow Dinner Theatre. And for both kids and adults, the Hole in the Wall Puppet Theatre, and the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire.

Are they any good, you ask? Yes! In addition to a wealth of local talent Lancaster is blessed by being located relatively near New York City, Philadelphia, and Baltimore. As a result our productions boast excellent talent from those who've already performed on big city stages and those who may someday do so.

The first decision you'll have to make is what kind of show you want to see. If it's a Broadway revival, or occasionally a first time performance, then head for the Fulton Theatre. If you want to see international stars or a Broadway-style musical revue, then plan on attending a show at the American Music Theatre. If your preference is for a religious-themed spectacle then Sight and Sound's Millennium Theater shown below is your destination.

Sight & Sound's Millennium Theatre

Or what about the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra? And if you would prefer to participate in an Elizabethan-themed outdoor show with entertainment, demonstrations, and craft shopping then you might prefer the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. Lancaster's live theater attractions are indeed plentiful!
