Why is Lancaster shopping good? For Amish quilts and furniture! And handicrafts, art, food, antiques, outlets and...
Lancaster shopping is one of the many things around which you may want to focus your planning. The area has a well known reputation for many of its products. And it isn't only for its Amish quilts or Amish furniture. In addition to those the area is a center for antiques, art, handicrafts of all descriptions, and many kinds of food. As well as the numerous free-standing stores and roadside stands there are two outlet malls - one large and one medium with more than 160 stores combined - and a large shopping center (
Park City Center
) with four big-box stores and more than 170 other stores and restaurants. County residents also love to browse at garage/yard sales, auctions, flea markets, and "mud sales" (see Locals). And, there are two more excellent reasons to acquire some excellent items here. First, prices here are lower than you may be used to if you shop in or near a large city, and since many products are made locally there may be no shipping charges. Second, Pennsylvania's sales tax is 6% and there are no additional city or local sales taxes here. Moreover, food (not in restaurants) and most clothing are tax-exempt. If you need even more reasons to make some purchases while you're here, click on any of the sub-categories at the bottom of this page: Antiques, Art, Farmer's Markets, Food, Furniture, Handicrafts, Local, Outlets, and Quilts (general information or shopping tips.
